Backyard Hockey Rink Installation in Winnipeg
Every kid who ever played this game in this country learned somewhere. A community rink, a frozen pond, or a sheet of ice their dad flooded in the backyard at eleven o'clock at night.
We build the third one.
Bulger Brothers installs backyard hockey rinks across Winnipeg — frame, liner, boards, lights, and the first flood. You get a proper sheet of ice in your own yard, ready for skates, without spending every December evening outside with a garden hose and a flashlight.
What you get
🧊 Frame and liner
Built to the size of your yard, squared and braced to hold the water without bowing.
🥅 Boards
Real backboards so pucks stay in the rink and out of your neighbour's garden.
💡 Lights
Flood lights or string lights, so the rink doesn't close at 4:30 in the afternoon like the rest of a Winnipeg winter does
🧹 Clearing and resurfacing
After a snowfall, we can come clear it and lay down a fresh flood — the same crews already out doing snow removal across the city.
📐 Any size
From a small sheet for learning to skate up to something the whole street ends up using. We'll work out what actually fits.
BACKYARD RINK FAQ
How big can my rink be?
Bigger than most people expect. A typical backyard sheet runs somewhere around 6 × 12 m (20 × 40 ft), but we've built smaller for learning to skate and larger where the yard allows. We'll measure and tell you what fits.
Will it wreck my lawn?
Grass under a rink goes dormant and usually comes back on its own by early summer, though it can look rough in April. If yours doesn't recover, we do sod installation too.
Who floods it?
We do the build and the base floods.
Do you maintain it through the winter?
We can. Clearing after snowfalls and resurfacing are available through the season — ask when you book, since it's easier to schedule up front than mid-January.
What happens in the spring?
We come and take it down. Frame and boards get stored for next season so your second year costs less than your first.
Can I get lights?
Yes. Flood lights for real playing light, or string lights if you want the look. We install landscape lighting year-round, so this is familiar work.
What does it cost?
It depends on size, what your yard needs, and which extras you want. We quote a fixed price after seeing the space.
1 · We look at the yard
We come out, check the grade, measure the space, and tell you honestly what your yard can hold.
2 · You get a fixed quote
One price covering the build, the liner, boards, and whatever extras you want. No hourly surprises.
3 · We build and flood it
We put the frame and liner in once the ground is properly frozen, then lay the base floods. Ice takes several nights of cold to build up — we handle it.
4 · You skate
Optional clearing and resurfacing through the season. In spring we pull it all out and store what's reusable for next year.
